Creating Your Wedding Invitations

Before you start designing, creating or commissioning your wedding invitations, sit down and make a list of who you want to invite to your wedding. Then go through that list and work how many people you can afford to invite! When you have your final list of invitees and everyone who needs to have an input in your invitation list has had their say, work out how many invitations you need to create. This can help you decide whether to:

  • What to spend on your wedding invitations
  • Use a professional to make your wedding invitations
  • Make personalised, hand-made invitations
  • Whether to look for a printers wedding stationery package (pew cards, name cards, napkins, thank you cards, etc).

Wedding Invitation Designs

If you need inspiration to help you design your wedding invitations, looking online is a great place to start. You'll find an abundance of great design ideas which you can play around with to find colours, themes and moods that complement your wedding plans.

Here are a few suggestions to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Traditional – Classic cream and gold, handwriting fonts
  • Contemporary – Bold colours and quirky fonts
  • Creative – Handmade with personalised design touches (cut-outs, stickers, hearts)

Wedding invitations traditionally come from the bride's parents, so it's always diplomatic to check the wording with them. However, invitations can also come directly from the bride and groom themselves (especially if they are paying for their own wedding). Things to include are:

  • Names of the bride and groom
  • Names of the bride's parents (if applicable)
  • Day, date and time
  • Guest's name and address
  • RSVP date
  • Directions for getting there
  • Any useful information for finding accommodation, local attractions and activities.
